In an online course, your lead instructor will likely develop orientation materials to help students understand how to be successful in your course. However, faculty often state that students do not read the orientation materials thoroughly.
One strategy to address this is to create a Quiz for students that covers the course orientation material. What is assessed communicates what is important, so it is best to create questions that reinforce the most important take-aways from your course syllabus and orientation.
Our own "Getting Started" quiz reinforces important course concepts found in the syllabus and other welcome materials. It also gives you the opportunity to practice taking a quiz that is low-stakes. You have unlimited attempts to complete this quiz, and your highest score will be kept.
