How Class Works:

Each Lesson has 4 parts: The Learning, the Practice, the Discussion, and the Knowledge Celebration (like a quiz, but no one likes quizzes, so we celebrate the knowledge we have gained instead). There are no unit tests, so once you finish a lesson, you just move onto the next one.
The best place to find these things is in Modules. Everything there is organized both by unit and by date. To find any of the 4 parts of the lesson, you will just click on the Page listed in Modules for that lesson.
The Learning will work like this:
- You will have the option to watch a video or read through a lesson on your own, and you will answer questions as you go.
- You WILL get a grade for this.. It will be a completion grade (you'll get 100% as long as you do it and have made some effort), but I'll give you feedback and might ask you to conference with me if you seem to have misunderstandings.
The Practice will work like this:
- You will click on each of the IXL links on the Lesson page and get the SmartScore to at least 75.
  - A few of the practices will ask you to get to something different on the SmartScore. Please pay attention to this.
  - Your SmartScore will be part of your grade on the assignment that goes with the lesson, so if you get higher than 75, that will give you a better grade.
  - Some of them are REALLY not worth going above 75. Please don't feel like you need to get to 100 on all of them!
- Your IXL username is probably firstnamelastname282 (so mine would be emilyschoch282) and your password is definitely your normal school password. If you forget it, there's a Module that has it in it.
The Discussion will work like this:
- In each lesson, there will be a link to a discussion where you will answer these three questions:
  - How can you recognize this type of problem?
  - What does your answer look like for this type of problem?
  - What is one specific thing you want to remember when doing this type of problem?
- THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE LESSON. You are putting together everything you've done and summarizing it.
- Expect to revise this, especially the first few times you do it.
The Knowledge Celebrations will work like this:
- You'll get a paper copy of this, then I'll have you take pictures of your work, then you'll upload those.
- This is the only part of the class that MUST be done in class with Ms. Schoch.
- There will be 4 Levels of problems. To pass, you must get everything correct up through Level 3.
  - Once you get everything correct, you will get a B-. If you want your grade to be higher than that, you need to attempt Level 4.
  - IF you don't get everything correct the first time, you will be asked to resubmit the assignment. There will be a comment with your graded Knowledge Celebration that also tells you what you need to do to revise. Do this on a separate sheet of paper, take a picture, and submit it.

Grading:

Most of your grade will be from the four parts of the Lessons that you do. Read above for how that will work.
Part of your grade will be from Participation. You will get a WEEKLY participation grade. Here's what you'll be expected to do:
- Contact me at least 4 times with questions each week. If you're in class, you can just raise your hand. If you're working online, the best way to ask questions is through Teams.
- Complete a Learning Activity for a lesson, practice on IXL for at least 40 minutes, submit or revise a Discussion, or take a Knowledge Celebration each day. You do NOT want to try to save everything until the last moment. Especially with Quarters, time will move very quickly and it will be very easy to get behind.
- There will be an Announcement sent out every day with what you should be working on and a link to an Attendance Survey where you'll just let me know what you worked on that day. You will PROBABLY only check off one thing and I WILL be checking to make sure you actually did what you check off.
  - If you forget to fill out an Attendance Survey, it will be available the next day, but will close after that.
  - I recommend that you fill it out, or at least open it up, BEFORE you start working for the day.
